I'm hungry :(

I. Am. Hungry. Day 5 and this girl is starving. I think it is partially because I haven't been making actual meals like Carly (all of which look absolutely delightful) and because I'm human and it comes natural to me to want a medium rare steak once a week. I don't feel the slightest bit different. Oh wait, I do feel a little different.... my stomach sounds like a grizzly bear because it won't stop growling. So tonight, if I have time, I suppose I'll try a little harder and actually make a meal and see if that helps anything. Right now, Sunday can't come soon enough.

Taste Tests

So on Sunday I did the shopping, but didn't have much time to lay around all day trying all my new food. Good thing I had Monday off and that's exactly what I did. The four big things I was most worried about were soymilk, burgers, hotdogs, and the thai noodles. For breakfast I had cereal and soymilk (light) and I even tipped my bowl up to slurp down the rest of the milk after I had finished my cereal. Score! Soymilk is gooood. After hitting up Ritter for a workout and dealing with the smells of somebody's wonderful cookout that had a burger aroma like I've never smelled before, I decided I would head straight home for a burger of my own. The gardenveggie burger was a hit! With only a little ketchup I was pleasantly surprised by the taste although I was still a little hungry and that's what brought me to my thai "ramen". That was added to my "YUM" list because who doesn't like ramen? Switch out the noodles and you've got it vegan style! Last thing on my agenda was to taste the hotdogs. After my JLH meeting I went home..... opened the package.... and low and behold it smelled like beef jerky! I'll have two, thank you! Once again I was very happy with the taste and it was very similar to a regular hotdog.

My taste test conclusion - Vegan meat is GOOD!

It has begun!

Sunday was day numero uno of Vegan Week. I did a little shopping and found that vegan food really isn't too expensive.

Here are some things that I got:
Soynuts
Gardenveggie Burgers
Fruits
Veggies
Soymilk - Regular and Chocolate
Vegan Hotdogs
Snack Bars
Thai Noodle Bowls
Thai "Ramen Noodles" (I renamed them because they're basically vegan Ramen)
Wheat Bread
Hummus
Pita Chips
Butternut Squash Soup

I was so excited about all the other stuff I forgot to get oreos! My total cost of food was about $50... no too shabby.

There was one slight problem.. the power went out at the Gucci Kroger as soon as we got there and I thought it might be a sign that I need to continue my humanly ways and stick with the red meat I've got in my freezer, BUT I shopped in the dark, got the goods, and went on my way.

What would your last meal be?

What's last meat meal I'm going to indulge in for a week? FAT PATTY'S, of course! Patty Melt and Bacon Cheddar Fries.. yum. What would you guys pick as your "last meal" if you were going to be vegan for a week?

I'd like to thank the girls at work for supporting Carly and I and promising not to bring in Wendy's for lunch next week. Oh and our boss too, but knowing him the first thing he'll have for lunch next week is Five Guys forgetting our vegan challenge. LOL We start in TWO DAYS!! Eeek!

On a side note - my friend's baby shower is tomorrow and I can't wait to celebrate Baby Ming (that's not her name, but Auntie Katie likes to refer to her as that). I picked up her lovely cake from Paula Vega Cakes this morning and it looks absolutely perfect! This is going to be a great weekend with a long and interesting week ahead.

WtFeck

So here we are.. sitting at work on this beautiful day taking a look at restaurants that are vegan friendly in our area. Let me tell you now that there are NOT many. I am seriously thinking I may starve to death by doing this for a week, but the good thing is that I don't go out to eat that often so my soon-to-be steady diet of oreos (which are vegan, whoopiee!) should suffice. There are surprisingly a lot of foods that we can eat, but all of them will have to be purchased from the "Gucci" Kroger. Guess I better get my rear in gear and make the trip to get my new food!

At the starting line..

I love food...  especially meat. Oh and chocolate. Well, I thoroughly enjoy just about anything that is safe for me to consume. So starting this Sunday I will be attempting to go vegan for a week because Oprah and her posse said it was great. I'm not doing it to save animals (for the record I am completely against cruelty to domestic animals) but I'm doing it as a personal challege and to see if it makes me feel better and healthier.

To all the vegans - I have some questions:

1. Can you wear fur, real or faux? I don't wear fur, but I was just curious..
2. Do any of you ever sneak in a nice big steak or does it make you really sick?
3. What are your favorite dishes that an inexperienced cook like myself could make?
4. Why are you vegan?

I'd also like to know how many of  the vegans out there that do it for the animals actually do something to help the animals besides not eating them.

Finally, anyone who would like to jump on board with the vegan week challenge we are starting Sunday, February, 20, 2011! My partner in crime for this is Carly - follow her blog @
